The third arm of Perungalathur flyover in Chennai is now open for public use. Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board in-charge and MSME Minister T M Anbarasan inaugurated this new arm on Wednesday.

Built at a cost of Rs 24.80 crore, the arme is said to connect Srinivasan Ragavan Nagar, Old Perungalathur with GST road towards Tambaram.

“Those who are residing around Old Perungalathur, Mudichur, Padappai, SR Nagar, Peerkankaranai, etc. were suffering a lot due to the railway gate at the Perungalathur junction. To reduce the woes of motorists, the third arm was opened today. This will reduce the traffic on the highway,” Anbarasan said.

During the inauguration, the minister noted the bi-directional flyover was planned during the earlier DMK regime but there was no progress in the last 10 years. “Now, it is open to public,” he said.

He mentioned that Chief Minister MK Stalin had inaugurated a flyover on the national highway between Vandalur and Tambaram in 2022 to facilitate seamless movement of vehicles to come into the city.

Further, he said that the construction work of the other flyover, taking off from Tambaram side, which will facilitate vehicles to move out of the city towards Vandalur, will be completed by this December.

“Few evictions would be needed in that route. Chengalpet Collector is taking measures about that,” he added.
